Total Hours: 48 hours (Synchronous and Asynchronous online)
Prerequisite: Completion of SPARK - Getting Ready to Use Tech in Your Classroom
Degree Status: A required course of the Educator’s Certificate in Educational Technology.
Creating the catalyst for change, the course introduces the participants to a variety of educational technologies, tools, apps, and techniques to deploy engaging content in their in-person or online classrooms now. Participants will explore using freely available, web-based technologies to help teachers prepare, understand, and navigate shifting between face-to-face instruction and online delivery formats. Organizing and assessing of content, styles of delivery, and social and emotional learning (SEL) concerns for students who are new to learning remotely will be examined.
Catalyst Part 2 goes more in-depth into the same topics from Catalyst Part 1 by
increasing the rigor and level of expected mastery of the educational technology ideas,
tools, and pedagogical techniques previously introduced. Participants will be challenged
to show greater mastery and application of the 4Cs pedagogy (creativity,
communication, collaboration, critical thinking) with higher levels of integration of
educational technology tools. Participants will demonstrate increased skills for
collaborating effectively within a dynamic professional team of educators; addressing
students’ SEL (social emotional learning) needs when transitioning to remote learning;
and blending modern, relevant digital education tools create a 21st-century classroom
online for any grade level and academic content.
Catalyst Part 2 further explores the applications of and possibilities for the freely
available, web-based technologies designed to help teachers prepare, understand, and
navigate the challenges from shifting between face-to-face instruction to online delivery
formats. The course is practical, relevant, and hands-on for guiding participants with
analyzing how to select innovative technologies in any curriculum content area to create
authentic learning experiences for students.
